UK on a winning streak? Road games will tell.

Posted on: January 29, 2008 9:21 am

I know some of you who are reading my blog think I'm nuts.    That's OK.

2 in a row, not quite a streak, but it's a start.

Billy needs to find a way to win these two road games to give this team even more confidence.

I will gladly admit that I was wrong early about Billy.   But he only showed his coaching ability since the Tennessee game.

What you might not know about me:

I already have an autographed picture of Billy G hanging in my office.   It's right next to the autographed pic of OTS that was sent to me on March 22, 2007.

I also will admit how wrong I was about the coaching abilities of Billy G.  He has this team playing harder than any team I've seen since Hayes senior year.

He also has only played Mark Coury 2 minutes each in the last two games.  Now...He just needs to sit him down all together.

The game in Athens is huge for this team...They may be in the coffin, but the nails have yet to be driven on the season...They need to win a game on the road to let them know they can win on the road...So they can take care of business at LSU, at Auburn, and at South Carolina where they should win.

Saturday is very big though...Lose there and its back to just "looking for the positives" this season again.  All hope is not lost.

kentucky0607, I agree with you totally except for one small thing. CBC has to keep Coury (or at least one of the other bigs) in the mix to some degree so PPat and Stephenson have a replacement if either get into foul trouble. I will say that I appreciate Coury's effort even though he lacks the physical skills to be much more than a roll player for us. He has shown some improvement though. I would like to see Carter get some more time in games, I thought he "might" have helped against that blocking machine from Mississippi State, but I'm not too sure he would be much better than Coury, maybe worse, but in certain situations I think he could contribute possibly. The main thing he's got going for him is his heighth and that is something that Coury can't combat. Unfortunately, we just don't have many good options beyond PP and PS. I am thrilled that Stephenson seems to be coming into his own. The other option, you might say, would be to go "small" instead of inserting one of our less-skilled bigs and that would probably be the best option in most cases, except in the rare case that both PP and PS are in foul trouble or heaven forbid, injured. But whoever he plays we have got to "Beat them Dogs!!!"

I almost forgot, but since we seem to be building for the future, I wish CBC could get AJ Stewart going. He has more upside than any other of the UK bigs, except PPat and Stephenson.

It is not how you start a season especially with all the injuries UK had it is how you finish. KY on a 5 game winning streak now 2 in row on the road. Huge game at Vandy and LSU. GO CATS

About The state of the UK basketball program.
UGH. OK, I was (and still am) a huge Tubby supporter. Those "fans" who didn't want his 26 wins a year, sweet 16 average, NCAA tourny every year, I hope you are happy. He is showing his stuff at Minnesota. And yes, with OTS this year, UK would have still lost 3-4 games, but not 8 by January 15. Now, on to UK's new head coach, Billy Clyde Gillispie. I really can't figure this guy out. Losing to prove a point? Not playing zone defense when it was really needed? I will say that by today, (January 16) I do see some improvement in the team, but the losses keep piling up. the losses that still kill me are Gardner Webb, San Diego, and UAB. Gillispie was flat out-coached. I do think that things will get better. NEXT UP, UK vs Florida @ the Waffle House.
